Impotent personhood

Shrouded in the world of the working poor

Doldrums of necessity calcify complacency where once

I dreamed

Increasingly the words have lost their meaning

Lost the weight with which they used to spill from my lips

Now, flat

They exist on the page but nowhere else

Imagery rendered mute

Suffocating the freedom no longer behind my eyes

Perhaps this is adulthood

Recognition that hope exists in children

Belief a luxury of the idle rich

Reality, my reality, is one of responsibility

Heart beats allotted for the tasks that need doing

How cruel, to teach imagining to machines
